Narrative
Shared living is an option to a 24-hour group home for adults getting services through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Shared Living providers welcome a person into their stable and caring home setting. They give a needed level of care. They get paid to do so. Providers include single parents, retirees, widows/widowers. They can be anyone with room in their heart and their home to share all that life has to offer.
In many cases, the people supported through Shared Living becomes a permanent addition to a forever family.
In other cases, the person has a goal to live independently. The caregiver may serve as a roommate and role model. They help the person learn to reach goals needed for independent living.
